Making adjustments for climate change

Photo I took this week of a Red-bellied Woodpecker (Melanerpes carolinus) in my back yard.

Last year was the hottest recorded in my area since they started keeping records. We had an unusually warm Winter too. While it did snow twice it only stuck once. That melted in less than 10 hours. Temperatures have been way above normal. It has been in the 60's and 70's with a few days in the 20's and 30's thrown in every week or so. No possibility of getting used to it. I guess that is why so many people ended up sick.

Plants and trees that should not be blooming until April and May are blooming right now, in February.
Last year we went directly from Winter to Summer. Completely skipping Spring altogether. Most of my early garden plants did not make it. This year it looks as if it may be worse so I am planting them now. I can always toss a cold frame over them for the couple of nights a week we dip into the 20's.
