Gardening from kitchen scraps

I had seen a few posts on the internet about gardening from scraps so I decided to try an experiment to see what would happen. About 2 weeks ago I cut the bottom off of celery and placed it in a shallow bowl. Every day I put a little bit of water in it. The bowl is sitting in my kitchen window which faces West. Here is what it looks like now.

It works! For now it will have to stay in the window but after danger of frost for my area has passed I will plant it outside in the garden. Next I want to try with Romaine lettuce and see if it will work too.
